Generate a comprehensive, structured research brief before any sales call by combining person enrichment, company intelligence, CRM history, web research, and competitive analysis into a single actionable document.

Instructions

When a user wants to prepare for a sales call, gather deep context from every available source and synthesize it into an 8-section brief with talking points, landmines, and dynamic personalization fields.

Steps

  1. Gather call context from the user. Ask these 5 questions if the information is not already provided:

    • Who is the call with? (name, LinkedIn URL, or email address)
    • What company are they at? (name or domain)
    • What type of call is this? (discovery / demo / negotiation / renewal / expansion)
    • What is your product or solution? (brief description so talking points are relevant)
    • Any specific topics or concerns you want researched? (optional)

    If the user provides most of this context upfront, skip the questions that are already answered and only ask for what is missing. At minimum you need the person identifier and the call type to proceed.

  2. Person research. Run these in parallel:

    • Call mcp__claude_ai_Amplemarket__enrich_person with all available identifiers (linkedin_url, email, or name + company_name). Set reveal_email to true. Extract: current title, career history, education, skills, location, social profiles.
    • Call WebSearch for the person's name + company to find recent activity: blog posts, podcast appearances, conference talks, LinkedIn posts, press quotes, and interviews.
    • Call WebFetch on the 2-3 most relevant URLs from the search results to extract detailed content (quotes, topics discussed, positions taken).

    Key data to capture: career trajectory, communication style clues (formal vs. casual from their writing), topics they care about publicly, recent role changes.

  3. Company research. Run these in parallel:

    • Call mcp__claude_ai_Amplemarket__enrich_company with the company domain or linkedin_url. Extract: industry, employee count, revenue range, tech stack, headquarters, funding history, description.
    • Call WebSearch for the company name + "news" to find: recent funding rounds, product launches, leadership changes, partnerships, acquisitions, layoffs, earnings reports.
    • Call WebFetch on the 2-3 most relevant news articles to extract details.

    Key data to capture: growth trajectory, recent strategic moves, public challenges, market positioning.

  4. CRM context (if HubSpot is connected). This step degrades gracefully if HubSpot is unavailable.

    • Call mcp__claude_ai_HubSpot__get_user_details to verify the connection and check permissions.
    • If connected, call mcp__claude_ai_HubSpot__search_crm_objects with object_type: "contacts" and filter by the prospect's email to find existing contact records.
    • Call mcp__claude_ai_HubSpot__search_crm_objects with object_type: "deals" and filter by the company name or associated contact to find deal history.
    • Call mcp__claude_ai_HubSpot__get_crm_objects for each deal ID to retrieve full deal details: stage, amount, close date, associated notes, and activity timeline.
    • Summarize: total deals, won/lost/open, last interaction date, key notes from previous conversations, assigned owner.

    If HubSpot is not connected or the call fails, skip this step entirely and omit the CRM History section from the brief. Do not prompt the user to connect HubSpot.

  5. Competitive context. Run these in parallel:

    • Call WebSearch for the company name + "uses" or "tech stack" or "tools" to find what software and competitors they currently use.
    • Cross-reference the tech stack data from enrich_company (step 3) with known competitors to your user's product.
    • Identify potential displacement opportunities (tools they use that your product replaces) and integration angles (tools they use that your product complements).
  6. Team context. Call mcp__claude_ai_Amplemarket__search_people with:

    • company_domains: [prospect's company domain]
    • person_seniorities: matching and adjacent to the prospect's level (e.g., if prospect is VP, search for C-Suite, VP, and Director)
    • page_size: 10
    • full_output: true

    Map the organizational structure around the prospect: who they report to, who reports to them, peers in adjacent functions. This helps identify multi-threading opportunities and internal champions or blockers.

  7. Synthesize the brief into 8 sections:

    Section 1: Executive Summary (1 paragraph) A concise overview of who you are meeting, what their company does, the call type, and the 2-3 most important things to know going in.

    Section 2: Person Profile

    • Current role and tenure
    • Career highlights (previous companies, promotions, notable achievements)
    • Recent public activity (posts, talks, articles, podcast appearances)
    • Communication style clues (inferred from their public content)
    • Education and notable affiliations

    Section 3: Company Snapshot

    • Firmographics (industry, size, revenue, location, founding year)
    • Funding and financial status
    • Recent developments (last 6 months of news)
    • Growth trajectory (hiring trends, expansion signals)
    • Tech stack overview

    Section 4: CRM History (skip entirely if HubSpot is not connected)

    • Previous deals and their outcomes
    • Engagement timeline (emails, meetings, calls)
    • Key notes from past conversations
    • Current deal stage and next steps if applicable

    Section 5: Talking Points (3-5 points tailored to the call type)

    • Discovery: focus on uncovering pain points, understanding their current state, qualifying fit
    • Demo: focus on their specific use cases, mapping features to their needs, addressing likely objections
    • Negotiation: focus on value quantification, competitive differentiation, urgency drivers
    • Renewal: focus on ROI achieved, usage patterns, satisfaction signals, expansion opportunities
    • Expansion: focus on new use cases, additional teams, complementary products, increased volume

    Section 6: Landmines to Avoid Sensitive topics to steer clear of: recent layoffs, bad press, failed products, executive departures, lawsuits, controversial company decisions. Sourced from web research. If no landmines are found, state that explicitly.

    Section 7: Questions to Ask (3-5 insightful questions) Questions that demonstrate you did your research and open up valuable conversation threads. Tailored to the call type and informed by the research findings.

    Section 8: Competitive Intel Known tools and platforms the company uses. Potential displacement targets. Integration angles. Competitive positioning notes relevant to the conversation.

  8. Generate dynamic fields. After the brief, output a Dynamic Fields Reference table with 17+ fields and their values. These can be copied into templates, CRM notes, or follow-up emails:

    If a field has no data available, set its value to "Not available" and note the reason.

  9. Offer follow-up actions. After delivering the brief, ask the user:

    • "Would you like me to draft a follow-up email template based on this brief?"
    • "Want me to create a pre-call agenda you can share with the prospect?"
    • "Should I research any of these topics more deeply?"

Important Notes

  • Never fabricate data. If enrichment or web research returns no results for a data point, explicitly state "Not found" or "No data available" rather than inventing plausible-sounding information. Fabricated data in a pre-call brief can destroy credibility in seconds.
  • Clearly label sources for every data point. Use inline annotations like (Source: Amplemarket enrichment), (Source: TechCrunch, Jan 2026), or (Source: HubSpot CRM) so the user knows what to trust and what to verify.
  • If HubSpot is not connected, skip the CRM History section gracefully. Do not display an empty section or error message. Simply omit Section 4 and renumber nothing. The user understands not all sections apply every time.
  • Warn about credit costs upfront. Before running enrichments, inform the user: "This brief will use Amplemarket enrichment credits for person and company data. Enabling email and phone reveals consumes additional credits. Proceed?" Wait for confirmation before calling enrichment APIs.
  • Distinguish verified data from web research. Enrichment data from Amplemarket is structured and verified. Web search results are unverified and may be outdated or inaccurate. Flag web-sourced data points with a note like "[Web research - verify before citing]" when the source is not a highly authoritative outlet.
  • Prioritize quality over speed. It is better to deliver a brief with 5 high-confidence data points than 15 uncertain ones. If web searches return thin results, focus the brief on the strong enrichment data and be transparent about gaps.

Troubleshooting

No recent news found for the companyState this explicitly in the Company Snapshot: "No significant news coverage found in the last 6 months." Shift focus to enrichment data (funding history, employee growth trends, tech stack changes). Check the company's own blog and press page via WebFetch as a secondary source.
Person has a common name (disambiguation)If enrich_person returns results that do not match the expected company or title, do not proceed with bad data. Ask the user: "I found multiple matches for [name]. Can you confirm their LinkedIn URL or email for an exact match?" If the user cannot provide it, use company_domain as a filter and present the best match with a confidence note.
enrich_person returns the wrong personVerify the returned profile against the user's description (company, title). If it does not match: 1) Re-try with LinkedIn URL if available. 2) Try with email address. 3) Try with company_domain instead of company_name. 4) If still wrong, inform the user and build the brief from web research and company enrichment only, noting: "Person enrichment returned an incorrect match. Person profile is based on web research only."
WebFetch blocked or returns errorsSome websites block automated fetching.
